I'm new to tractors in general. I will soon close on 5.5 acres of flat ground (with house) that is at the the end of a 1200ft long gravel lane. I am looking for a tractor capable of clearing snow, finish mowing the entire lot and handling some landscaping chores. I saw a local dealer and he gave me the following:

BX 2200 HSD with bar or turf tires
LA181 Front Loader with 48" bucket
BX 1612 4 position valve(compatible with snowblower)
RCK 60B22BX 60" MMM
1KBXAS Curtis "custom" Hard Sided Cab
9PH15518 Tuck Away Hot Water Heater
BX 2750A 50" Snowblower
BX 2751 Quick Hitch Subframe
BX 2752 Mid PTO kit for Quick Hitch Implements

Total before Sales Tax: $20,400

The cab and heater are the requests of my wife. She will be doing most of the snowblowing. Is this a good price?

I have been considering a larger tractor after reading the posts here. The information here is great. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think a snow blower and cab are worth an extra 8 grand. I bought my 2200 with a 211 loader, 60"mmm for right around 12,000 new. I will let you know that the 2200 is a great tractor. I've tilled and landscaped over six acres, moved approx. 500 yards of topsoil, 25 ton of retaining wall, and 30 ton of stone. Not to mention 100's of cords of firewood. This little tractor just don't quit! The only minor downside, is for all the power it has it is a very light tractor. With enough rear ballast, almost anything is possible. ....

Your quote of $20,400 seems high, but I guess the sub-compacts are in great demand. If you haven't looked at the 'snow' and 'size tractor needed' forums, you may find some tips there.
I myself would want a little more power for the snow, and maybe a little more ground clearance too. Gravel drives can be a challenge to plow, OR snow-blow.

The heated cab sounds GREAT!

Thanks for the help. I thought that it was a little high too. This was just a first quote with no negotiation. After reading the posts here, I am thinking about a serious upgrade to a B2910. I'm kinda tall, so the adjustable seat and steering would be wonderful (my wife is kinda short!).
I'll post a quote for that tractor when I get it. Thanks again. ....

I don't know why you would need any more then a BX for 5.5 acres. You might be able to get a BH for the price difference of the larger unit. ....

I am thinking a little farther into the future than I have revealed here. My uncle owns a 160 acre farm with a 15 acre woods. He is likely to want to sell it in the next 5 years and I will probably buy it to keep it in the family. I am not a farmer, so the tillable acreage would be rented. I just want a tractor that may be able to handle the larger tasks that may be in the future.

Kubota doesn't make a back-hoe for the BX2200(according to the web-site BX22 only). Does some other company make one? That was one of the reasons for moving to a B2910. Thanks for the help. I will post the new quote soon.

There are no aftermarket hoe's for the BX. You need to look at what they have done to build the BX to see why it can't be replicated easily. I think for the bigger picture you are talking two differnt needs all together. BX would be nice any way and the price of the hoe is cheap. ....

If you want the Backhoe, you really want the BX22. It has a re-enforced frame and the hoe is made to work with the BX22. If you want a new 2200, I would wait a little while. The new version, BX2230 is coming out with some nice upgrades. Your dealer will have all of the info after their October (first week) dealers' meeting. ....

FYI, In New Hampshire, I was just quoted $18,355 for a BX2230, 211FEL, 54" MMM, GCK60-BX grass catcher w/boot kit, BX2750A Snow thrower w/hitch and a Del Morino URT96E Tiller (allows offset tilling). ....

lbrown59 my friend: We are all happy and excited for you that you have gotten you BX23, it's a great machine.

Look in the top left corner of the post previous to yours. It's from a year ago. I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ but, please, enough already. ....
